Expanding to four countries in 2019 wasn't enough for the Ginduro organisers, 2020 sees them take the race to six different corners of the world with Australia and Switzerland andCanada new to the series. We've also learned that Wales might be on the cards with only the Californian race returning from last year, but in a new location.
We've sent a few riders to the Scottish Grinduro race over the years with the resounding result being that it would be "impossible not to recommend Grinduro as an experience to remember!" With the race venues changing for 2020 to incorporate more and some very different countries, it looks like that experience will be within reach of even more new people!
Grinduro bills itself as a “celebration of cycling with as much emphasis on the party as the ride.” It’s not just about hurting yourself silly getting as quickly as you can around the course, but about enjoying the chance for incredible riding in a very special place.
The riding takes you on something like an 80km loop with a respectable 1800m of climbing. Though officially it’s a race, there’s not too much racing to be done. Similar to mountain biking enduro, there are four timed stages where it’s 'no pain no gain' and you have to give it your all for about 7 to 12 minutes. The rest of the route lets you stick to the Grinduro “maxin’ and relaxin’” mantra of riding at your own pace, enjoying the spectacular views of Arran as you trundle along to the next stage. But along with the riding you also get food, drinks, goodies, awards, a party and even some free brazing demos. Cliché maybe, but it's very good vibes.
Last year the entries for the Scottish round went live on the 2nd January and we reckon this news of the new venues is a big old teaser pre entries opening in the new year. There is precious little more information to be gleaned from the Grindo event website. We do know that all six races will take place between June and December 2020 and that entries sell out very quickly! Keep your eye on the news and your fastest finger at the ready when entries open, maybe we'll see you in Wales!
