POC's all-new Cularis MTB helmet is built around ventilation and safety

POC's Tectal and Kortal helmets have become mainstays in the helmet space, known for their tech-heavy emphasis on safety. Today, the brand with roots deep in snow sports has unveiled its newest mountain bike-specific helmet, the Cularis. This helmet joins its existing range and benefits from ventilation and safety technology advancements.

- Can you use a road bike helmet for mountain bike and gravel riding?
Built using learning when designing the Tectal and Kortal helmets, the new Cularis is a trail-focussed helmet shaped to retain the signature POC silhouette to provide cohesive looks and plenty of coverage. However, as well as hosting a bunch of neat features, the POC has paid real attention to ventilation in its latest trail lid.
The ventilation on the Cularis was inspired by POC's WorldTour-used road helmets. It engulfs air at the front of the helmet, guides it around the head with special channelling cut into its interior, and exhausts it out the rear. To achieve this design, POC employed CFD, or Computational Fluid Dynamics, to fine-tune airflow.
As well as being equipped with Mips Air Node, the Cularis's shape is designed to help protect against angles and linear impacts. Of course, the helmet gets a polycarbonate shell and EPS liner. Knocking the Fox Speedframe RS from the top spot, the Cularis has scored a full five-star rating from Virginia Tech and it's now the top-ranking helmet out of all helmets the testing company has tested.
Boosting protection further is a breakaway visor that should reduce the risk of neck injury but there's also what POC calls the 'Eye Garage'. POC has fitted the Cularis with a Fidlock buckle — a first for the brand. The product also features a 360-degree IT system, adjustable straps, and a vertically adjustable cradle.
Weighing a claimed 350g in the large size, the brand's latest lid is shaped to fit head sizes from 51 up to 62cm in circumference and it'll set you back £200.
