After being shown how to ride our bikes as quickly as possible, Team ORCC has been busy training and preparing for the upcoming races. All of this has led up to this episode, where I put my newfound skills to the test at my first race at the Tiverton leg of the Southern Enduro series, and Suvi prepares herself further with fresh tyres for Raiders Gravel.
In the last episode, we were joined by Fergus Ryan and Chris Opie as they showed me and Suvi some top tips on how to ride our bikes faster and episode four was set to put those skills into practice. That's because I had a crack at my first enduro of the season, and Suvi got to grips with her Lapierre E-Crosshill and graced it with a fresh set of Continental tyres.
While Tiverton was the second venue that the Southern Enduro roadshow would head to this year, it was my first race of the season and I arrived with a very humble set of goals. Firstly, I wanted to get to know my Lapierre Spicy enduro bike a little better. Having work commitments to see to, it's not often I get to spend time with the race rig, so my goal was to take it easy and learn where the bike really shines.
Secondly, I wanted to regain a taste of what riding under pressure is like. It's been a good few months since I last put myself between the tapes so taking it easy during this first event was a must and it allowed me to figure out my strategies a bit ahead of my main event in August.
And from my racing tracks, we then move to see what Suvi has been up to. As her final preparation before her main race, the three-day-long Raiders Gravel, Suvi is doing some tyre swapping. After the rubber has been changed to the slightly knobblier Continental Terra Trails, she then goes to test the full setup on nearby gravel trails. One of the key aspects of e-bike riding is, after all, learning how to preserve battery life.
