The Naughty Northumbrian is well known in the mountain bike enduro world for being a tough and technical race, it's even been called one of the UK's 'wildest enduro races'! The very same organisers will be running a gravel enduro in 2020 called the Naughty Frontier and if their reputation is anything to go by, its sure to be a challenge.
Previously there has been a gravel sportive held on the same weekend as the MTB enduro but this time the gravel riders get their own event weekend, with the gravel enduro taking place on the 29th August 2020 in the Coquet Valley, Northumberland.
There will be 5 timed stages within a 30 ish mile loop but the organisers state "these are Northumbrian miles", being not far from the Scottish border that probably means hilly and hard! There will be 5,000 + ft of ascent to go with those 30 miles too!
They say there will be no set stage start times per rider, simply arrive before the stage closes, and go when you like and the course will utilise the core elements of this valley's topography' - A mixture of Gravel track, grass descent, mellow single track and valley-bottom tarmac sections with big vistas.
As well as a fully sign-marked route there will be camping, beer, music, games and evening activities over the weekend.
Entires are £50, plus £6 a night if you are camping. The entries open on the 1st February 2020 - head here for more information.
With a format similar to races such as the Ginduro, we reckon this is a great race to put on the calendar for 2020 if you fancy something a bit different. With New Years Resolutions looming fast it could be the ideal goal to aim training towards!
