Video: Silk Road Mountain Race '23 edit
Every August, a unique event unfolds in the heart of Central Asia. Endurance cyclists, their bikes laden with bags, embark on a two-week journey through the rugged mountains of Kyrgyzstan. The route, spanning the country's capital, Bishkek to Cholpon Ata, covers a challenging 1,938 kilometres. What sets this race apart is the absence of prizes, support and the scarcity of Tarmac. It's a true test of a gravel rider's endurance and determination.

This week, a film that covered all the adventures from last year's 2023 race was premiered. The edit includes the director, some racers and the race organiser, who offer a unique perspective on the race. Reasons to Ride is directed and produced by Central Asian filmmaker Evgeny Chistyakov, who is no stranger to travelling the world through cinema and captivating the true essence of the event.
Now in its sixth year, the film looks back at the fifth edition of this ultimate ride, where mind over body is at the forefront. You will feel and see just a glimpse of the wild challenge with breathtaking scenery, local life, guaranteed respect, inspiration, impressive bike setups, true emotions, and, of course, the reality of what an extreme journey or changing altitude, massive mileage in the legs and exhaustion can look like.
