The Neuron:ONfly features a carbon frame and 140mm of suspension travel front and rear, positioning it as a dedicated trail bike. Unlike most longer-travel e-bikes, the Neuron:ONfly rolls 29-inch wheels all-round, instead of a smaller 27.5-inch rear rim.

Delivering the pedal-assistance for this new Canyon e-bike is Bosch’s Performance Line SX mid-drive motor. Rated at 55Nm of output torque and 600W of power, the Performance Line SX motor is tuned for progressive and intuitive assistance. The Neuron:ONfly is powered by a 400Wh battery that Canyon claims saves two to three kilos over the full-fat Neuron:ON.

If you're a rider who looks to take full advantage of a lightweight e-MTB's lesser kilos but still want the opportunity to boost range, the Neuron:ONfly can accommodate Bosch's PowerMore range extender that adds an extra 250Wh to the bike.

There’s an app to configure the motor’s linearity as required for your riding style and terrain. You can also use the digital interface to secure your Neuron:ONfly, with the mid-drove motor locking when parked, making it impossible to pedal away. 

XS ones are smaller in the rear

Geometry numbers for the Neuron:ONfly combine a slack head angle for confident steep terrain descending, with mild reach numbers. Correctly sagged for rider weight, the Neuron:ONfly sits at a 64.5-degree head angle, with a size medium having a 460mm reach. There's then a 76.5-degree seat tube angle.

The frame size spectrum is generous, starting at XS and peaking at XL, although the XS frames trim rear suspension travel from 140- to 130mm. 

Some notable frame details with Canyon’s Neuron:ONfly are its neatly integrated head- and downtube protection. There are also handy PU hoses inside the frame for supporting internally routed cables and reducing the annoyance of on-trail rattle. 

Several build options

Canyon is marketing the Neuron:ONfly in four builds. The premium option is a CF LTD build, featuring SRAM Eagle XX AXS 1x12 drivetrain, Ultimate Stealth 4-piston brakes and Fox Factory grade suspension, pairing a Fox 34 fork with a Float shock.

Rolling Reynolds Trail 329 Blacklabel EXPERT wheels complete the build, with Canyon’s CF LTD being the lightest Neuron:ONfly at 19.1kg. 

The CF 9 build swaps Fox for RockShox, with a Pike Ultimate fork and Deluxe Select+ shock with Code Silver Stealth brakes and DT Swiss HX1700 LS wheels. It weighs 19.9kg.

Canyon’s CF 8 goes back to Fox suspension, but it’s a Performance-grade fork and shock. The big change with CF 8, is its drivetrain and brakes, which are Shimano XT and have slightly larger rotors. All Neuron:ONfly builds use 200mm brake rotors front and rear, but for the CF 8, which ups that to 203mm. Neuron:ONfly CF 8 weighs 19.6kg. 

Canyon’s entry-level Neuron:ONfly is the CF 7 derivative. Drivetrain and brakes combine SRAM Code R and Deore 1x12 gearing, while the suspension is a RockShox Pike Base and Deluxe Select+ shock. The CF 7 builds weigh 20.4kg. 

All Canyon Neuron:ONfly builds have a 45mm stem, clamping three handlebars widths, depending on size. The XS bikes steer with 740mm handlebars, increasing to 760mm on the S/M sizes, and wide 780mm handlebars on the L/XL frames. 

Appropriate to its German origins, the Neuron:ONfly range uses Schwalbe tyres, with a Hans Dampf Super Trail Soft Grip 2.35in up front and Nobby Nic Super Trail Speed Grip 2.4in at the rear.
