Video: Maverick by necessity - How Tailfin designed its Frame Bag
Tailfin's latest video takes you through all of the steps taken to design and build its well-reviewed Frame Bag. For the brand, the job is far from simple as development takes the bag from conception, heat mapping for nine different sizes using thousands of different bikes as references, right through to additional development in order to eliminate abrasion damage through knee rub.

As any bike luggage designer will surely tell you, and this video demonstrates, creating a frame bag can be one of the most difficult tasks in bikepacking kit design. Other bags, like seat packs and bar bags can be built to something of a standard and achieve a good fit and useable performance. However, frame bags need to fit within a wide range of mountain and gravel bike frames, so there's a lot that needs to be considered not only for ease of use but for the perfect fit.
The documentary even highlights the lengths of Tailfin's testing with its team claiming that its bags have gone through thousands of cycles as the final product is refined. That's both in the lab, where you'll see crazy machines throwing bikes around, and real-world testing that cranks up durability testing in comparison, and with an off-road specific bike packing bag, durability is huge.
