Video: Cycling the Camino de Santiago

Jack Thompson challenged his strong will to escape the typical avenue of life that often led him to a dark place he didn't belong in. After spending years following a career path he thought was right, gaining a degree in construction management and economics and ending up in a job that did not align with his true self, Jack decided it was time to chase his real calling of being a professional cyclist before it was too late.

Australian professional cyclist Jack thrives on challenges that push his mental and physical limits. His latest goal? Riding across northern Spain on the Camino de Santiago, a route traditionally walked by pilgrims but also open to cyclists. (I completed it myself back in 2013.) With a world record in his sights, 775 km and 10,000 m of elevation in under 24 hours, his mind was ready, but his body had to keep up.
This edit follows Jack’s journey, not just in pursuit of a record, but in redefining failure and turning it into a positive. When things didn’t go as planned, he learned to embrace the unexpected, stop, and see riding in a new way. Sometimes, a different, unexpected path can be the right path.
If you get one thing from this video, it is to be yourself in a world constantly trying to make you be something else. That is the biggest accomplishment.
