New training programme for e-MTBers launched
Still think e-MTBs are cheating? Prepare to have your mind blown with what's claimed to be the world's first specific training programme for e-bike riders, created by coach Ben Plenge at The Strength Factory. It's designed to help riders cope with the specific demands of heavier bikes and takes advantage of the training opportunities an assisted bike brings.
- What's best for cycling, synthetic or merino base layers?
- How to choose the best dropper post for your mountain bike
- Five things that weren't cool - until enduro happened
If you're wondering why you'd even bother with training if you've got all that sweet, sweet battery power on demand, then Ben explains: "On the descents, you have the added weight of the bike to move around the trail and the fact that you are doing 2 to 4 times as many downhills as on a normal MTB. This puts a big demand on your body in terms of strength and power.
"On the climbs the different power modes give you total control of your effort level, from super easy recovery pace to max heart rate, leg burning efforts that will push you to your limits."
The 12-week training programme takes all his experience working with top-level athletes (and our Jon) from enduro, downhill and beyond and tailors it to the unique challenges an e-bike presents out on the trail. It combines gym or bodyweight training sessions with e-MTB specific interval and sprint training in flexible weekly plans, along with HD videos to help explain what you need to do.
The plan costs £35 but it's discounted to £25 until 3rd June, with loads of extras such as weekly support emails and mobility exercises all included. For more info, head to the website below:
