Mason's drop bar Bokeh steel adventure machine was well ahead of its time in many respects, but this updated version brings it bang up to date with clearance for fatter 700c or 650b rubber, refined cable routing and a fork with more, stronger mounts plus dynamo routing options.
While the original bike had pretty solid clearance for up to 50mm tyres on a 650b rim, a new bottom bracket design has allowed the bike to now 'comfortably' fit a 2.1" tyre (yes, we hate mixing units too) as well as some other clever stuff, like having plenty of internal cable routing space around the crank axle and more strength from an increased weld overlap.
The all-carbon fork has seen some big changes too, with triple 'anything cage' bosses on either side so you can now travel with more stuff attached to the bike, not your body as well as freeing up your main triangle for a full-size bag. The fender mounts have been beefed up too, plus there's a crown mount and neat all internal routing for a dynamo light so there's a minimum of exposed cable from hub to light.
Talking of cables, the new chainstay layout allows a much smoother routing for your rear brake and up front, the port that leads to it has been moved to the underside of the top tube for a smoother run and better compatibility with frame bags as well as getting it out of the way of rain.
In superb news for giants, there's now a special order 62cm frame size available that uses a 34.9mm diameter seat tube with 31.6mm post to add some stiffness for the largest and heaviest riders, especially when fully laden or off-road.
Finally, the colour is called 'FilterGreen' and it's a limited run colour as all the Bokeh2 frames are handmade and painted in small batches in Italy. That means that you'll need to get on and order one if you like it - and if you don't just can just wait until they do a different one.
Complete bikes range from £3,995 for a Shimano Ultegra Di2 Hydro built to £2,795 for a SRAM Rival 1 or Shimano 105 Hydro bike. You can get a frame for £1,250 and there are also various frame and wheelset bundles on offer too.
