Tyre giant Maxxis has today introduced the Reaver to its comprehensive line-up of tyres. Designed especially for gravel riding, it's said to offer grip in dusty or loose conditions. Here's everything you need to know.

Maxxis' new Reaver is already making waves in the gravel circuit with Keegan Swenson having set a new course record during the Crusher in the Tushar event in July and Andrew L'Esperance winning the Blue Mountains Gravel Fondo with the fresh gravel-specific rubber in June.

This tyre is designed with diamond knurling in a bid to reduce rolling resistance while boosting grip in dusty and loose conditions. Grip is provided by paddle-shaped knobs spaced closely together and staggered for consistent performance while cornering.
The shoulder knobs get sipes to help the flex and conform to the terrain, improving traction, says Maxxis.

The brand compares the Reaver to the Rambler, stating that it's faster rolling, lighter and has better puncture protection at the tread layer. In deeper gravel, the Rambler will be a better choice but if you're after all-out gravel speed, the Reaver is the tyre for the job.
Maxxis' new Reaver will be available in 700x40c with a 120tpi casing and EXO sidewall protection. There's also the choice between black and tan sidewalls. The tyre is then priced at £55.
