DT Swiss announces E-MTB specific wheelsets
DT Swiss has acknowledged that e-bikes aren't just a trend but that they've evolved with more powerful motors, bigger batteries and a shift in user behaviour. All of which has lead to an increase in loads. The demands expected for an e-MTB wheelset have changed, therefore the brand has totally revised the Hybrid MTB wheels. There are three new models available; here's everything you need to know.
- The best trail and enduro mountain bike wheelsets, tried and tested
- Which MTB freehub body do I need? XD, Micro Spline or HG?
- Is it worth converting your mountain bike to tubeless?
DT Swiss's new collection of e-MTB specific wheels are built to bring reliability being built with stronger materials, compatibility with new tech found on e-bikes, and to help extend your ride.
First off, the HXC 15051 Spline One is a carbon wheelset filled with high-end tech. It's made for riders who are looking for the most performance that an e-MTB wheelset can offer.
It gets a carbon rim combined with a redesigned hub shell which is said to offer better drive and brake moment resistance which occurs from the bigger motors and heavier bikes. This wheelset uses the new Ratchet EXP OS system with 30 teeth, directly transmitting rider torque to the ground. Along with the freehub system, these wheels get reinforced spokes and a selection of internal widths to ensure the most relevant level of tyre support.
Next up, the HX 1700 Spline moves to an aluminium rim and a 350 hub that now features a bigger hub body which is said to enable better brake and drive torque resistance. This wheel also gets reinforced hybrid spokes and it's available in two internal widths and two wheelsizes.
Rounding off the new range is the H 1900 Spline wheelset. It's now upgraded to run DT Swiss's Ratchet LN system which is designed to distribute the combined forces of the rider and motor over a larger area than previous systems. This, DT Swiss says, improves durability thanks to lower load peaks. These wheels come sorted with the 370 hub, reinforced spokes, an aluminium rim that is available in two internal widths.
The new wheels are priced from £170 up to £860 for the HXC 1501
