The Rockrider AM is a lightweight, long-sleeve jersey that's comfortable, effective and impressively cheap. The slim fit is good as far as it goes, but small changes to the shape just about everywhere would really improve it.

Made from a generic mesh-style fabric, it’s very thin and lightweight, and great for hot days in the mountains where both cooling and sun protection are key. It’s not a jersey for cold rides, however, as it doesn't offer much warmth even when layered.

The fit is ok, rather than great. It could be a touch longer in the arms to stop the cuffs rising up on the bike, while the tail could drop further for better coverage there. The body is what I’d call athletic – not baggy, but not roadie tight either. It is definitely a leaner cut than the average jersey in any given size, though. It could be worth sizing up for a more generous fit all over.

The diagonal seam across the chest can make the RockRider AM feel a bit twisted at times – again, sizing up may help. Beyond that diagonal mix of patterns, the AM's styling is very neutral and unfussy: a pattern and a block colour, coming in either dark blue or black. There isn’t much to get excited about here, and in all honesty it feels a little boring and behind the times.

With no extra features (no goggle wipe, pockets or clever fabric panels) the AM is basic, and the price reflects that. For less than twenty quid, the AM is fine for summer use, but despite the low price it still just misses the mark. With a tweaked cut the Decathlon RockRider AM LS could be a great jersey at a great price, rather than what it is now – an OK jersey at a consequently OK price.
