After two years of development with gravel racers and riders from the WorldTour peloton, Corima claims that this wheelset combine the gravel-specific G30.5 and road wheels. These wheels claim to offer comfort whether you ride them with 28mm tyres on road, or put on 50mm rubber for gravel trails.
Hand-built in the brand’s factory in France, the Essentia 40 comes with a 40mm deep, hookless and tubeless rim, allowing low tyre pressures.
Made from 3k carbon fibre and featuring a structural aerospace foam core, Corima claims the wheels absorb vibrations while offering a high level of durability. Building the wheel, Corima has used R2 lacing system and external nipples to ensure easy repairs.
The freehub on the Essential 40 has been re-designed for off-road riding, making sure it can handle the higher torque. The hub has a precision star-ratchet system, which includes 36 teeth, offering a 10-degree engagement angle and oversized bearings that complement off-road riding with disc brakes.
The complete wheelset has a claimed weight of 1,600g.
The Corima Essential 40 are available from Corima’s website and distributors worldwide from September 22. The price for the wheelset is €1,390 (£1,216).
