This week it's all about carbon wheels, we've got some of those head-turning Spengle wheels, plus new wide carbon goodies from Bontrager. Alongside them, there's purple shoes for the ladies, some 2-in1 shorts and a Kona Big Honzo hardtail to razz! Dig in....
- The best mountain bikes you can buy for under £1,500 - full sus and hardtails
- Best mountain bikes for under £3,000 - capable trail bikes that won't break the bank
- 5 cool things from Trek, Dynaplug, Marin, Giro and Shimano
Aussie Grit Apparel Quartz 2-in-1 women's bike shorts
New in at the Aussie Grit stable are these women's bike shorts. With a completely sewn in lycra chamois, the shorts look like they will sit securely and be easy to put on/pull down! We like the chamois design and fit from Aussie Grit (here's a review of their lycra) so we have high hopes for these!
Kona Big Honzo DL
We;ve been hankering after one of these for a while, the Kona Big Honzo DL is a 130mm, 27.5" alloy bike with wide rims and room for 2.8" tyres. The geometry looks pretty progressive with a 75 degree seat angle and a 475mm reach on this large frame. OK, the head angle isn't the slackest at 67.5 degrees but we will, of course, withhold judgement until we've ridden it! We will be taking a full first look at this bike later in the week so check back then.
Bontrager Aeolus Pro V3 gravel wheelset
The Aeolus Pro 3V’s are wider with a 25mm inner rim width, rather than 19.5mm inner width seen on the road wheels. They also feature the brands Rapid Drive 108 hubs as per the road wheels. For those not up to date with Bontragers extensive wheel line up, the brand says the Aeolus Pro 3 TLR "is a full carbon, tubeless-ready road wheel that balances durability, weight, and aerodynamics for pro-level performance that doesn’t break the bank".
road.cc have tested the road wheels recently here, giving the £1,200 wheelset 4 stars out of 5, praising "high-end performance at a reasonable price". We look forward to their test results!
The full first look is here.
Spengle carbon wheels
It's a wheelie good week this week, I'm sorry, the temptation to write that was just too much! These Spengle wheels are actually destined for our road.cc counterparts where they will be tested on a gravel bike. We hope to get a second set to put to use on a long travel trail bike, namely Jon's Mondraker Foxy. In the meantime, here's a proper look at the futuristic tri-bladed carbon wheelset.
Bontrager Foray Mountain women's shoe
Sticking with the gravel theme, these landed on our desk along with the above wheels. The women's Foray shoes from Bontrager are designed to be used for anything from trail to XC to gravel riding. With a Boa dial and a medium (ish) stiffness rating, they look good and I'm sure we'll get used to the colour......
