Giant's Trance has always been superbly popular, a staple at most trail centres and at woodland singletrack alike. 2019 sees a massive update as the bike gets 29er wheels, goes for shorter travel and gets all new geometry too.

Giant has just unveiled it's updated to the Trance and it's sporting 29er wheels, 115mm of Maestro suspension (trunnion mount) with 130mm forks and will be available in both carbon and alloy. The 27.5" Trance won't be obsolete though, the two models will be sold together for the foreseeable future.

 

The 155mm travel bike gets slightly longer geometry than the 2018 version regardless of wheel size. The reach on a medium bike is 442mm, with a head angle of 66.5 degrees and an effective seat angle of 74.5 degrees, not the slackest or steepest of angles but both are a pleasing update. The wheelbase of the medium bike comes in at 1176mm with chainstays of 435mm and a seat tube length of 431mm. Giant has also opted to spec the bikes with a short 44mm offset, following in the footsteps of the likes of Transition. A shorter offset brings the front axle of the bike more rearwards underneath the rider, increases the ‘trail figure’ and shortens the wheelbase. More trail helps to increase front wheel traction whilst the shorter wheelbase counteracts the effect of a slacker head angle. We loved the Transition Smuggler when we rode it and are keen to see how the new Trance stacks up.

Carbon models start at the top of the range with the Trance Advanced Pro 29 0 which features DVO suspension, XO1 Eagle drivetrain, SRAM Guide RSC brakes and a Rockshox Reverb dropper post.

There are two other carbon Trance Pro 29's get Fox bouncers (34 Float Performance), GX Eagle drivetrain, SRAM Guide T brakes, Giant's own carbon wheels and Giant's own dropper post.

Giant Trance Advanced Pro 29 1 - $5,000

The Trance Advances Pro 29 2 is the bottom of the range carbon bike getting Fox 34 Rhythm Forks, SRAM NX Eagle, Guide T brakes and a Giant dropper post. You still get carbon wheels on this model too.

Giant Trance Advanced Pro 29 2 - $4,300

The alloy model available at the moment is the Trance 29 2 with Fox 34 Rhythm fork, Fox Float DPS Performance shock, SRAM Guide T brakes and an NX Eagle drivetrain and an alloy wheelset

Giant Trance 29 2 - $3,400
