YT Industries' first Jeffsy MK3 Uncaged 13 throws back to the 1990s
Fittingly launched on a Throwback Thurday YT Industries first Uncaged build of the latest Jeffsy shamelessly harks back to the 1990s the decade of Furby, grunge, Ace Ventura, and perhaps the best The Simpsons has ever been. While the 90s may stick in our memories for gaudy colours and questionable slang, it was also the decade, mountain biking was figuring out what it was and where it was going. That process lead to some highly recognisable bikes, such as the Ritchey P-21 and the first Uncaged build of the latest Jeffsy, YT Industries throws back to that era.

Today, YT Industries has unveiled its first Uncaged edition of its latest Jeffsy trail bike, and with it, the brand harks back to the 90s not only with a colourway that looks like it's been lifted off an old Ritchey bike (surely 'pays homage to'? - ed) but also a handful of one-off silver components from Renthal bolted to an all-aluminium frame.
For this build, the Jeffsy gets a few changes from its original spec and that all comes from the fact that it runs a mixed wheelset with a 29in wheel at the front and a 650b wheel at the rear. The little wheel at the rear then has a knock-on on effect to the bike's suspension travel as it gets boosts from 145mm up to a round 150mm. Also affected are the chainstays which shrink to 432mm on the small to large frames and 437mm on the XL and XXL sizes. Although the rear wheel is smaller, YT promises that there have been no other changes to the Jeffsy's geometry.
Although the brand's suspension caters to a much wider audience these days, YT nods to Marzocchi's freeride heritage by speccing the Jeffsy Uncaged 13 with an air-sprung Bomber Z1 fork which is combined with a Bomber Air shock. The brand says that these choices position the bike as a 'workhorse' for all kinds of riding.
As expected on a YT bike, Renthal takes up cockpit duties but on this bike, the brand best known for its motorsport-derived handlebars has brought one-off silver componentry to the bike. So that includes an all-silver Fatbar and Apex stem which match the Crankbrothers Synthesis Enduro 2 wheels and the SRAM G2 Ultimate brakes. SRAM also handles the drivetrain, kitting the bike with its GX Eagle mechanical groupset.
This Uncaged build boasts ODI X Vans grips as well as kit from SDG. Finishing up the build is a YT Postman dropper post and Maxxis tyres with EXO+ casings.
