Zwift goes off road with new mountain bike training plans
Known for road-based training plans used by cyclists of all persuasions, Zwift has now added two new off-road training plans and has added new mountain bikes to the app all to help you get stronger for that seriously horrific climb or prep you for your first gravel event.
- The best mountain bikes for under £1,000 - the best budget buys ridden and rated
- Five ways to survive winter riding if you hate mud
- How to prepare for your first gravel race - kit, bike setup and training
New to the app are two off-road training plans. First off is The Dirt Destroyer. This is Zwift's plan that's aimed at knobbly tyre riders who already have a good endurance base. It incorporates surges that reach over the threshold to increase anaerobic capacity. It'll also help develop peak pedal torque to help with the steepest of steeps.
The Pebble Pounder plan is aimed at beginner gravel riders who are looking at taking the leap into their first gravel event. It acts as the perfect companion to the already available Gravel Grinder plan.
As well as two training plans, Zwift has added three new mountain bikes and three new gravel bikes. The Canyon Grail, Inflite and Cervelo Aspero fill the gravel line up while the Canyon Lux, Specialized Epic and Scott Spark mtbs can now be found on the app.
Each bike now has its own characteristics with gravel bikes being quicker on gravel, slightly slower on-road and at their slowest off-road, while mountain bikes will be quickest off-road, slower on gravel and slowest on road.
