The sport of downhill mountain biking is going to be shown live on mainstream TV! The BBC will be showing the UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Championships on their Red Button channel as it takes place this weekend in Cairns.
This is awesome news for the sport, increasing its potential to be seen by viewers that it may not usually be able to reach. Most recently pro enduro racer Katy Winton was featured on BBC Scotland in an interview explaining to viewers what a day in the life of a pro racer looks like. Mountain bike racing is getting out to the mainstream bit by bit and this latest move to show the highlight of the downhill racing year on the Red Button is a great move to bring downhill racing to more people and give recognition to the riders racing at the top of their sport.

The UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Championships takes place from Wednesday 6 September to Sunday 10 September, in Cairns, Northern Australia. Coverage of the men's and women's downhill races will be live on BBC Red Button, Connected TVs, online & on the BBC Sport app. Highlights will also be available on BBC Red Button and the BBC iPlayer.
Reigning world champions Rachel Atherton and Danny Hart are both looking to defend their titles in Australia, if you are keen and ready for an early morning you can catch the action live from 03:55am on the 10th September. For those that want their Sunday lie in and then a bit of MTB action over breakfast, you won't need to stay away from social media too long, with a replay starting at 09:20am.

From the timings above it looks like the BBC will be showing the top 10 women and the top 30 male riders.

To say we are excited about this weekends television viewing is an understatement - this year's World Cup has been one of the most exciting seasons in a little while now, we're expecting equal amounts of adrenaline and couch side commentating as the World Champs of 2017 are crowned!
