The YT Industries Decoy goes full carbon and gets a bigger battery
Donning a Shimano EP8 motor, the Decoy takes the role of the e-MTB in YT Industries range. For 2023, the brand has expanded its e-bike lineup, adding a higher-end build and the option to fit a larger battery. Here's everything you need to know.

Two bikes have entered the Decoy range. The Decoy Core 4 and Core 4 MX offer two bikes tailored for two styles of riding. Both bikes are designed for those who want to beat the shuttle but the MX gets a more gravity-fed orientation while the standard Decoy has a taste for adventure.
Both bikes now benefit from a full carbon frame for the first time but the MX built gets 165mm of rear-wheel travel handled by a Fox X2 Factory shock and 170mm at the front provided by a burly Fox 38 Factory fork. The name might be a bit of a giveaway but the MX comes with a mixed wheel setup.
As standard, the bike comes with a 540Wh battery which feeds the Shimano EP8 motor and its 85Nm of torque. Shifting is provided by Shimano's XT Hyperglide+ drivetrain and SRAM has sorted the Code RSC brakes, while YT's own Postman dropper offers more drop than before on each of the fice sizes, offering up to 200mm on the XXL frame size.
Crankbrothers Synthesis rims come laced to Industry Nine hubs wrapped with a Maxxis Assegai at the front and a DHR II at the rear, both with EXO+ casings.
The Decoy 29 benefits from all of the same changes but gets less travel at 145mm at the rear provided by Fox Float DPS Factory and there's a lighter-weight Fox 36 Factory fork with 150mm of squish. Both bikes employ a Renthal cockpit.
It's not just about the bikes as YT Industries now offers a 720Wh battery that equates to 30% more capacity than before. It's a battery custom to the Decoy, too, utilising 21,700 cells wrapped in aluminium. It's mounted using two bolts via a 5mm Allen key, making battery swaps simple. What's great, is that this larger battery can be bought separately from YT and is compatible with previous, and current MX and 29 Decoys in sizes M up to XXL.
As for prices, the Decoy 29 Core 4 will set you back £6,500 while the MX build costs an extra £500 on top. The 720Wh battery is priced at £900.
