Ratio's SR52T Cage is lighter and stronger alternative to SRAM's T-Type derailleur cages
Based in the UK's Lake District, Ratio Technology knows a thing or two about riding in ridiculously rocky terrain. With that, the brand has made light work of destroying its SRAM Transmission mech cages and has set out to improve on the drivetrain giant's design with its own. Introducing the SR52T Cage, Ratio claims to boost strength and shed a few grams from existing Transmission drivetrains.

Ratio is no stranger to fettling with existing drivetrain technologies as it's best known for its upgrade kits that allow users to modify their SRAM drivetrains to work with extended-range cassettes. We've tested the brand's 1x13 Upgrade Kit and found that it works rather well at that. And with Ratio working on its own mechanical direct mount derailleur prototype we knew it wouldn't take too long before the brand set out to tinker with T-Type drivetrains.
The result is an answer to the T-Type derailleur cages which, from Ratio's own experience, have a habit of peeling the out plate away from the lower jockey wheel under impact with a rock. To avoid this, Ratio's SR52T outer cage plate 'meets the lower jockey at the cage's leading edge'. It uses its structure and chamfering to help the cage deflect impacts, rather than get hung up on them, destroying the cage.
The SR52T outer cage fits the same dimensions as SRAM's original cage with 14 and 16 tooth jockeys but the lower jockey is angled so the chain can track the chain ring across the cassette.
It uses features found on Ratio's existing cages such as the two additional screws that cross-brace the cage in a bid to boost stiffness. The SR52T is claimed to weigh 90g, which is lighter than SRAM. The brand also states that installing one of these cages to a SRAM GX T-Type derailleur without a battery drops the grams from 464g to 426g.
The SR52T is built from 7075 aluminium and acetal thermoplastic, is available in black or silver and can be picked up with or without fresh jockeys. The cage only will set you back £74.50 while the whole shebang is £94.50.
