OneUp Components, the brand behind the EDC Tool and many other ease-of-life innovations, has entered the clipless pedal market. The brand hasn't held back either as it claims that the Clip Pedals are the thinnest mountain bike clip pedals in the world but also that they're super light, but mega strong. Let's dive in.

The biggest headline of the new Clip Pedals is that they're only 26.8mm in depth, so they're super thin. A lot is going on with the shape – the pedals are large platform downhill-sized pedals. OneUp says the benefit behind these points is pedal clearance to reduce pedal strikes. Reducing the pedal thickness also helps reduce weight with a claimed figure of 410g.

The large platform has been chosen to achieve the confidence-inspiring feel of flat pedals while reaping the efficiency rewards of clip pedals – and the platform is shaped to support the shoe when riding. The four hollow pins are then adjustable to dial in pedal feel and grip.
OneUp's Clip Pedals utilises the well-known and incredibly common SPD mechanism but, here, it's not an off-the-shelf binding. Instead, it's custom-made for this pedal so the mechanism eradicates all front-back and up-down movement – so a tighter cleat fit. This is fully adjustable and doesn't sacrifice float, we're told.

The SPD mechanism provides five degrees of float and a 12-degree release angle. Additionally, OneUp says the tension spring offers a broader range of adjustment (cleat spacers are included in the box).
As for materials, the inboard IGUS bushing and three outboard-sealed cartridge bearings spin around a chromoly steel axle. There are eight colours available. A pair of pedals can be bought for £143.
