Halo launch new Vapour GXC wheelset for gravel, cross country and road plus, whatever that is....
Halo wheels have just launched a new gravel wheelset calling them the Vapour GXC's. It pairs their 21mm wide Vapour rim with GXC Supadrive rear and GXC front hubs to make a set of wheels that are as equally applicable for gravel riding, cross-country or 'road plus'.
The Vapour GXC comes in as the latest and lightest development to the famed Vapour series of wheels. Halo says the Vapour GXC meets the needs of reliability, low inertia and strength with long distance and more demanding events in mind. The Halo website quotes the 27.5" wheels as weighing 1,720g and the 29ers coming in at 1,805g.
The Vapour GXC is built from a material (heat treated Niobium alloy) that offers a lightweight rim that they say has a high tolerance for impact forces.
There is increased tyre volume and maximise the available grip and comfort on offer with tubeless compatibility, with an inner width of 21mm. The Vapour GCX can be used for pure gravel riding, 'road plus' (650b wheels with wider road tyres) and narrower MTB tyres in either 29 or 27.5" wheel sizes.
There is an all-new, instantaneous 120 point pick up GXC Supadrive and GXC Front hubs, with sealed bearings, and super wide spaced flanges for increased build strength and durability. Utilising a wedge pawl mechanism the Supadrive system withstands incredible torque loads. Featuring 12 micro teeth per pawl, drive is transferred efficiently through a dramatically increased surface area. The GXC hub range is modular and current. Available in 135 x 9mm and 142 x 12mm cones from the box, with the choice of HG or XDR freehubs, Vapour GXC wheels fit almost all applications. Halo says "With our GXC Supadrive hub we have increased drive stiffness and reduced flex with a heat treated, hollow Cro-Mo Steel axle for maximum power transfer."
