Today, Fizik drop four new shoes, the Tensor Flat, Tensor Clip, Versor Flat and Versor clip. Tensor are the race bred shoes, whilst Versor are the shoes destined for trail riding.
Let's kick things off by talking about the Gravita outsole that is present all shoes. It's designed for fast and aggressive gravity riding. As such, Fizik has combined a super sticky Vibram Megagrip rubber compound with a specially designed zonal lug pattern.
There's then a low-profile tapered tread pattern at the middle of the sole that allows for an optimal mechanical interface with the pedal pins, says the brand. Then the heel and toe portions of the sole get a deeper and sharper tread which is meant to provide more traction when off the bike.
The Versor trail shoe also has many similarities between the flat and clip versions. That includes the shoe's build, both versions get a ripstop fabric upper with an X6 outsole, an EVA midsole, and of course that Vibram Megagrip tread.
The similarities don't stop there, the Versor cradles the foot with a secure fit from its rather unique lace-up closure. Both shoes come sorted with a PU-laminated toecap and side reinforcements for extra protection. Fizik has even gone as far as to trim any excess and unnecessary material in a bid to save weight.
Of course, the differences come with the flat and clip-in pedal interfaces. As such, the clip-in model gets a nylon shank in the sole which offers a stiffness index of 5, whereas the flat model goes without and sits at a 2 in Fizik's stiffness index.
Something that any downhill/enduro shoe can't go without is an extended cleat track. The Versor comes with exactly that and allows for a more rearward cleat position to mimic the position you might have with flat pedals.
The Gravita Tensor shoes, as well as that Vibram Megagrip outsole on both clip and flat models, also get the ripstop outer and moulded toe box. Again, as per the Versor, the stiffness index of the clip shoe is 5 and that of the flat shoe is lower and therefore less stiff at a Stiffness Index of 2.
This race-ready shoe has the same offset lace system with an additional velcro 'Powerstrap' to secure the upper foot. The Tensor shoes also get a raised inner cuff to protect the ankles, this is present on both the flat and clipless shoes and is more raised than we've seen before from any brand. Tensor shoes are also fitted with a neoprene cuff to stop dirt ingress.
