5 cool things from Halo, BTWIN, Fidlock, Stans and more
It's that time again where we flaunt the five coolest things that we've had come into the office this week. Here we've got some downhill ready wheels along with a host of accessories. Oh, and because we missed one out last week, here are six cool things that have come in for ripe for review.
- The best multi tools for mountain and gravel bikes - top multi tools reviewed and rated
- The best trail and enduro mountain bike wheelsets, tried and tested
- The best cycling water bottles you can buy - tried and tested
Decathlon MTB Pump
£13
Decathlon's MTB pump is designed for mountain bikes but can happily be used with any other bike. It uses a screw-on connection with an extendable hose and there's a handy dust cover to stop crud from finding its way inside and wrecking the pump.
Halo Gravitas wheelset
£190 - £310
Last month Halo released the Gravitas wheelset, a pair of wheels designed to shrug off the rigours of downhill racing and we've got a set for testing. These hand-built hoops come with bold strength and weight claims and are built with a new alloy that's said to be more resistant to cracks and dents. These are off to Jim who rides in the Lake District, let's see if the Gravitas wheels can cope with those rocks.
Stans Dart Tubeless Repair
£25
DART is Stans' entry into the tubeless puncture repair market but it uses a very different kind of plug that's promised to fix damaged tyres faster and better than existing tools. The feathered plug reacts with latex sealant to chemically bond the plug to the tyre's rubber. So it's kind of a two-pronged attack on punctures, mechanically sealing a hole with the plug, then the chemical reaction is said to enhance the seal. There's also a plastic tip on the plug that's designed to stop the plug from being pulled out when riding.
Fidlock magnetic water bottle and bike base
£17 - £37
Prime for some on-bike hydration is the Fidlock magnetic water bottle system. We've got the 450ml along with the Uni Base that can be fitted to any bike frame, and the boss mounted Bike Base. If you've not seen these before, the Fidlock bottle does away with a cage in favour of magnets and a twist release. We're keen to see how secure everything holds together down the roughest descent we can find.
B'Twin 920 Multitool
£13
The B'Twin 920 multitool gets 21 functions and for the price, looks set to offer whopping value for money. It's got 2 to 10mm Allens, all of the spoke wrenches you'll ever need, a chain tool and even a crank bolt tightening tool.
Decathlon Rockrider 12L Hydration Backpack ST900
£40
The sixth addition to this week's 5 cool things is the Decathlon ST 900 12L hydration pack. As well as its 12 litre carrying capacity there's also space for an additional 2 litre bladder. Then, for comfort there's a mesh back and a host of adjustments for proper fit. This bag looks ideal for those who like to carry everything but the kitchen sink.
