- Tough construction
- Bold designs
- Great fit and finish
- Not particularly breathable
Hackney GT has taken the long sleeve jersey and splashed it with some outlandish, bold designs for a range of well-made, funky-looking tops (this one's Royal Camo, but there are six others). They prove top quality and seriously tough jerseys which really stand out from the crowd.

Hackney GT’s long sleeve jersey comes in seven wildly different designs, and is aimed at mountain bikes, BMX and motocross – which gives you a clue to its construction. It's one tough jersey, feels reassuringly rugged and has some nice finishing details. These include lycra cuffs for comfort and a perforated, windtex chest panel for airflow.
There are six sizes from extra small through to XXL. I fit a medium, and found this one pleasingly comfortable, if a little on the snug side – it's cut for a slim fit. It certainly isn’t tight, though, and the stretchy material is unrestrictive whilst riding.
Arm length is spot on, and the wide-hemmed lycra cuffs are a comfortable and welcome addition.
Testing generally involved glimpses of early spring sun with cutting winds that remind you winter is not done yet. In these conditions the jersey excelled, the perforated front panel allowing enough air in to keep me cool, while the thicker material elsewhere kept the chill at bay.
I think this jersey would be ideal in the autumn or spring with a thin layer underneath (or winter as part of thicker layers), but for the summer I’d be looking for something more breathable.
As testimony to the tough build, I had a heinous crash whilst riding out of my ability zone which resulted in a high speed over-the-bar situation that write off my helmet. The jersey survived with very minimal marking, even though the thin layer I was wearing underneath it ripped.
At £55 the jersey is reasonably priced, and I’d argue for the quality it’s a great deal. There are of course cheaper alternatives out there from some big brands such as the Leatt DBX 2.0 long jersey (review link is up above), but it's less breathable.
If you’re after a well-made jersey for cooler days, which will last even if you’re prone to crashing, the Hackney GT long sleeve jersey is a strong contender. Even more so if you’re looking for some funky designs which stand out from the crowd.
