This on-bike storage solution from Peaty’s is well-built featuring a zip pocket for storage and a very strong self-fastening strap so it doesn't damage your bike's paintwork. The pocket size isn’t huge but it can carry all the essentials, including an inner tube between the frame and the bag.

Peaty’s HoldFast Trail Tool Wrap - Technical details
The HoldFast Trail Tool Wrap is a storage option made for bikes with a pouch to keep items such as a multi-tool and tyre levers and a small, as well as a zipped pocket to keep little such as a patch kit. The pouch has a self-adhesive gripper around the outside, which attaches to the frame. There's a pouch that can be mounted to the strap for extra storage.
You can also mount an inner tube into the system, which sits in between the frame and the pouch. The inside of the strap, which sits against the frame, has a grippy silicone print that helps to keep it in place without sliding around and damaging the frame’s paint.
The pouch is waterproof with welded seams featuring a big unsealed pocket, so your tools will stay nice and dry when wrapped up.
The company says that the typical combination of items being carried in the pouch includes a tyre plugger, CO2 inflator, CO2 cartridge, multi-tool and two tyre levers. Inside the small zipped pocket, you can include things such as keys, split links and a bank card. The overall wrap is approximately 160mm x 60mm depending on how you pack the pouch.
Peaty’s HoldFast Trail Tool Wrap - Performance
I’ve found the HoldFast Trail Tool Wrap to be the best of its kind and, because of the way it wraps around the frame, there’s very little chance of damaging any paint, unlike other similar wraps that I’ve tested. It also holds everything that I need on the trails and sits nicely out of the way so I don’t notice it but it’s there for when trouble strikes.
When installing it, you must make sure your frame is clean because any dirt will likely scratch your frame. You first wrap the strap around the frame and fasten it up tight. You can then attach the pouch meaning you can leave the strap attached to the frame.
I’ve been running the HoldFast Trail Tool Wrap as a bit more of a bare-bones outfit, I’ve had a multi-tool, tyre levers and a spare tube set up. My hardtail frame has a fairly thick downtube so I haven’t been able to have the tube wrapped independently to the pouch. Peaty’s says that you can wrap the tube to the frame and then stick the pouch separately, so if you need to get something out of the pouch then your tube will stay attached to the frame. Still, it’s worth bearing in mind that if your frame is as chunky as mine this won't work.
Out on the trails though, I’ve not had a single issue with losing anything. The strap has a strong self-fastening material, which means you can crank the strap on tight and it doesn’t go anywhere at all. This is important for looking after paintwork because if the strap can move around then you’re much more likely to run into paint rub. During the whole time I’ve used this, it’s not left a single mark on my paint, which is impressive.
I’ve found that this has been a great solution for taking spares out on the trails with me. They’re always attached to the bike – safe and hidden away inside a waterproof pouch and always there when I need them. If you don’t ride with a rucksack or use your pockets for spares, then I do think this might be the best option there is at the minute. Unlike some saddlebags, the Peaty's HoldFast Trail Tool Wrap won’t get in the way of your dropper post.
Peaty’s HoldFast Trail Tool Wrap - Verdict
At £35, this is not a cheap option but it's a good quality saddle bag. Other options such as the Pro Discover Saddle Bag can cost £40 or more.
The similar idea of the Muc-Off Utility Strap and Waterproof Cargo Bag comes in a little cheaper at £25 but doesn't match the HoldFast Trail Tool Wrap for ease of use and all-round functionality.
The ease of putting things into the Peaty’s HoldFast Trail Tool Wrap and how it doesn’t damage your paint is a big bonus and makes it pretty hard to beat. At present, this might be the best option out there for looking after your frame and tools.
