Raleigh Components has proudly teamed up with Pembree, a fellow UK-based cycling company that shares values on sustainability and carbon footprint reduction. Pembree designs and manufactures flat pedals right here in the UK with two models currently on offer.
Pembree has come from 24 years of inspiration and was founded back in August 2020 by an engineer, Phil Law.
Phil's vision behind Pembree was to challenge the industry ethically in a sustainable approach to the business and in UK-based manufacturing while delivering top-performing components that are built to last. They also come built with a handful of neat but unique features.
To start with, there are two Pembree pedals on offer, the R1V, and the D2A but there's a whole heap of cool kit to come.
The R1V is the pedal that catapulted Pembree into the world. It's said that the R1V takes the platform pedal to a whole new level in terms of performance and durability. Raleigh Components says that it's become the benchmark for sustainably produced performance products in the mountain bike market.
This model is built with replaceable 304 stainless steel traction rails and pins. Then, the pedal body itself is made from anodized aerospace-grade aluminium and it's concaved for support and added grip. The pedal comes sorted with two SKF sealed outer bearings with a single IGUS JSM inner bearing. Finally, there's a dedicated spindle seal and that's all in the name of longevity.
After the R1V's success, Pembree turned its attention towards dedicated racers, delivering the D2A pedal. This pedal is designed to be the ultimate flat pedal for racing, offering enhanced grip from in-house designed traction pins while benefitting from the strength and longevity of a stainless-steel constructed spindle and bearings. It's built from the same materials as the R1V but gets one SKF needle inner bearing.
Both pedals come with a five-year warranty.
Raleigh Components has said that this is just the start and that there's a lot more cool, carbon neutral, UK-built kit in the pipeline from Pembree, a family run company.
As for prices, the D2A will set you back £150 whereas the R1V is priced at £225.
