Hot off the heels of their e-bike launch, Privateer release details of their new short travel trail bike, the 141. With a little less travel but keeping the progressive geometry and good spec at a very reasonable price, this trail bike looks like one of the most exciting bikes to be launched this year.
It doesn't take much to work out this new trail bike gets 141mm of rear travel paired with a 150mm fork. Privateer says it's built for those who want to benefit from the platform proven with the 161 but don't necessarily need a bike for enduro racing or for riding steep techy alpine trails. They say they built the 141 to handle everything from your local trail loop to bike park laps and, of course, it'll race if you want it too.
The bike gets the same theme of super progressive geometry as the 161 and the E-161 in terms of long reaches, steep seat angles, short effective top tubes, slack head angles and long wheelbases across the board. On the release of the 161, our Jon chatted to Sam from the brand all about the ins and outs of the radical geo in this video interview.
The 141 also still benefits from size-specific chainstays, something which really piques our interest. Product Manager Sam told us that this helps keep the rider's weight in the right place, no matter which end of the size spectrum they are. This would have been no mean feat as it would have meant a whole load more work had to be done as changing the chainstay length influences the suspension kinematic, which in turn needed more work to ensure a consistent response.
The 141 also keeps all the frame details from the 161, there are the same head tube cable guides for the internal routing, there are three bearings in the main pivot to share the load, a one-piece rocker link for improved stiffness and a threaded bottom bracket. Bikes will be available in sizes P1 (smallest) to P4 (largest) with all getting 29er wheels, bar the P1 which gets 27.5" wheels. There are three colours to choose from: Raw, Charcoal Grey and Heritage Green.
Available as a frameset or a complete build in one spec, the bikes are available for pre-orders now with delivery expected in January 2021 for complete builds and November 2020 for framesets.
