Orbea launches in-house Oquo MTB wheel brand
Spanish bike maker Orbea has announced its own MTB wheel brand, Oquo. There are five wheelset options available; two alloy and three carbon models cross-country, trail and enduro bikes, with one model available in two sizes.
- The best trail and enduro mountain bike wheelsets, tried and tested
- Best mountain bike tyres 2022 - quality rubber for trail, XC and enduro
- Orbea presents the new Onna - An entry level XC bike
The Oquo wheelsets come built on asymmetric, front- and rear-specific rims. On the rims, Oquo has used angled spoke holes to reduce the stress at the spoke head and reinforced the spoke beds for maximum reliability.
Orbea says Oquo is committed to the most advanced industrial processes, combining the precision of robots with a human touch to achieve a precise finished product. Much like with Orbea’s bikes, Oquo wheels are fully personalisable so that they can colour match your bike, personality or clothes - without an additional cost.
The Oquo wheels were tested in the brand’s “Wrecking Cave” and out in the field, ensuring they can last in the hands of the most demanding cyclists, Orbea says. All of the Oquo wheels come with Keep on Rolling program that fully covers a replacement.
Mountain Performance wheelsets
Oquo’s Mountain Performance wheelsets are designed for cross-country mountain biking and trail riding, with maximum weight savings without sacrificing durability, response or control.
The MP30 Ltd is Oquo’s lightest and fastest - and most expensive - wheelset, with a claimed weight of 1,300g and a price of €1,999 (£1,720). The 29-inch wheelset comes with a DT240 S CL hub, Sapim CX Ray TCS spokes and a Center Lock disc.
The next in line wheelset, MP30 Team, Oquo says is stiff, reliable and still light at 1,480g.
The 29-inch rims come laced onto DT350 CL hubs with Sapim D-Sprint spokes and set you back €1,299 (£1,122).
And lastly, Oquo offers “reliability and quality at a more affordable price” with the MP28 Pro. This alloy wheelset comes with DT350 hubs and Sapim Race spokes and costs €599 (£517).
Mountain Control wheelsets
On the Mountain Control wheels, Oquo has prioritised reliability over weight. The brand says this makes them excel in offering the best feel and handling on technical trail and enduro mountain biking terrain.
In this range, the top-of-the-range MC32 LTD is the race-ready carbon wheel for hard riding. It has Enduro Carbon Tune for even more strength for the wildest race tracks. The 29-inch wheelset comes with DT350 6IS hubs, Sapim D-Sprint Race spokes and a six-bolt disc mount and sets you back €1,599 (£1,380).
A notch down from the MC32 is the MC32 Team alloy wheelset. These come with DT350 6IS hubs and Sapim D-Sprint spokes. This is the only wheelset in the range that is available in 27.5- and 29-inch wheel diameters. The wheelset costs €699 (£604).
The six wheelsets are currently available on the Oquo website.
