This week has been a week of recovery from a Welsh weekend, full of bikes, mud and a very dirty cleanup! The postman was the bearer of new trail kit from head to toe, from Morvelo and Alpinestars with some warm gravel gear thrown in from Vaude as the season's change.
Movelo Kuler Jersey and RAD Shorts
Movelo is a brand that shouldn't be overlooked when choosing new MTB wear. With some cool designs and quality materials, the range is well worth a look if you want a flattering piece of kit with plenty of features. The gear isn't roadie orientated either, its MTB specific, so don't write it off before you start! We've got a women's Kuler Jersey and Rise and Descend Shorts in plus some men's gear for gravel riding.
Only What's Necessary FR-01 Shoes
Innovative in design and far out in looks, the FR-01 flat pedal shoes from OWN are quite a thing to behold. The modular design provides the wearer with options of two different liners - mesh and highly breathable or weather resistant and fleece lined for warmth. Elsewhere the shoes are bonded together rather than stitched, feature a tough kevlar upper and use a dual compound Vibram sole, sticky rubber at the pedal contact point and high abrasion rubber at the toe for good traction off the bike too. To list all the features here would take us a good while, these are action packed full of good ideas - you'll have to wait for a full review to hear all about them, the innovative design and of course, the performance.
Vaude Morzine Soft Shell Jacket and Qimsa Pants II
As we saw at Eurobike earlier this year, Vaude has a really exciting 2018 line up of clothing coming up. Until we can get our hand on some of that we are going to take a look at some winter kit from the 2017 range. Our resident gravel biker is going to review the Morzine Soft Shell in this 'be seen green' colour and the Qimsa Soft Shell Pants. Both are windproof, breathable and water repellent and sure to keep the elements at bay whether you've got a cold commute or big adventure in mind.
- Morzine Soft Shell Jacket - £140
- Qimsa Soft Shell pants - £150
Home of all things outdoor and also the bike brand, Sonder, AlpKit also have some useful cycling kit that's not too badly priced either. We're taking a look at the Gravitas waterproof jacket, the Kepler base layer and some components from the 'Love Mud' Range, just because we do (love mud that is)......
- Gravitas Waterproof Jacket - £140
- Kepler Base Layer - £45
- Love Mud Torque Pedals - £35
Alpinestars Shorts - Various
Fresh in from Alpinestars are the Pathfinder and the Outrider Waterproof Base shorts - the former being a pair of light but rugged trail shorts with the latter being the weather resistant variety. The Outriders are, pleasingly, a pair of rainproof shorts that have none of the plastic feel of other waterproof offerings in the market. We are also giving the women's Stella Pathfinder shorts a spin too, both of which get a liner included in the £100 price tag.
- Pathfinder Shorts and Pathfinder Stella Shorts - £100
- Outrider WR Waterproof Shorts - £95
