Ceramic Speed SRAM Eagle Jockey Wheel Upgrade
Ceramic Speed, makers of ceramic bearings for bottom brackets, jockey wheels, hubs and head sets, have today announced they are making jockey wheels specifically for the SRAM Eagle 1 x 12 drivetrain but at the princely sum of 359 Euros or 599 Euros for the Titanium version!
Swapping out the regular jockey wheels that arrived with your SRAM Eagle drivetrain to the two 14 tooth versions from Ceramic Speed will, the company say reduce friction and improve performance. They say they have tested this with Specialized Racing athletes and all prefer the larger jockey wheel set up.
"The larger diameter pulley wheels reduce friction by limiting the amount of rotation experienced by each chain link as it passes,” explains Brad Copeland, mechanic at Specialized Racing. “Combined with the precision machining and incredibly high-quality bearings inside, the new 14/14-tooth Eagle pulleys are the final piece of drivetrain perfection to get the absolute most out of our mountain bike drivetrains. In addition, the machined alloy pulleys are stiffer and therefore enhance shifting feel and give a more precise and instant engagement than we have experienced with stock pulleys before.”
The jockey wheels are made from titanium or alloy high-quality bearings made in Denmark by CeramicSpeed. The wheels use the narrow-wide tooth profile like the stock SRAM 1x jockey wheels, which is designed to interlock with the narrow-wide profile of the chain.
It all comes at quite a price though, the figures on the Ceramic Spees website shows for 359 Euros you get black alloy jockey wheels with hardened stainless steel bearing races. There's also a titanium version, which will cost 499 Euros for the standard version and 569 Euros for a ceramic coated version.
Is this worth the upgrade after splashing out on SRAM Eagle - what do you think?
