Canyon has teased the launch of a new mountain bike range, with the rather cryptic 'No Routine' tag. Going on the tiny amount of information we can glean from the video clip on the site, we reckon it's likely to be a new Strive enduro bike. Read on for more wild guesses and conjecture.
Popping on our Columbo style overcoat and hat, there are more than a few hints as to what the bike might be. The first thing is that it features Canyon's enduro racers, riders and all-round good time boys the Dudes of Hazzard riding whatever it is around the Highlands of Scotland. With the fact that there's a cornering shot in some roughty-toughty tech and the way the back end moves up and down, it's definitely full-sus and we can probably count out it being a super short travel machine.
That gives us two options - either a replacement for the current 160mm travel Strive enduro bike or the 140mm travel Spectral trail machine. Both are likely candidates as their current framesets were launched around 2014. However, going on the fact that the Dudes are sponsored by Mavic and the bikes feature the trademark yellow hub of a Deemax wheelset, we're guessing it's probably going to be a longer travel enduro bike rather than a more trail-focused item.
So, what changes might have been made? Well, we're guessing that the trend for longer geometry might mean that the new bike will probably have a greater reach figure. The Strive was initially available with an extra-long 'Race' geometry option for some models, but that doesn't appear in the current line up, so we're wondering whether that sizing will come over or if Canyon will settle somewhere less aggressive.
The current Strive also features the travel and geometry adjusting Shapeshifter system. There would definitely be weight to be saved by deleting that or moving to a system that operates inside the shock, but we can be sure that the new bike will almost certainly move to a metric-sized trunnion mount shock regardless.
Anyway, that's all we can moderately sure of. You'll have to wait 'til the 11th December launch date to find out any more...
