Bianchi unveils Impulso RC – an aero-inspired gravel bike
Bianchi is expanding its foray into the world of gravel racing with the introduction of the Impulso RC gravel race bike. Positioned as the pinnacle of the updated Impulso gravel range, this new model reflects Bianchi's aim to distinguish between adventure-oriented gravel bikes and those tailored for high-performance racing.
- Gravel racing - what's next for cycling's fastest growing discipline?
- Best gravel wheelsets 2023 - fast and furious off-road wheels
- 2024 UK gravel events - the best off-road races of the year
The Impulso RC aims to attract those wanting a competitive edge in World-Championship-level gravel races and aims to go above and beyond the Impulso Pro released in 2021. Taking its design inspiration from the sleek Bianchi Oltre RC and Specialissima, the Impulso RC boasts a carbon frame designed for optimal aerodynamic efficiency and stability.
The geometry, influenced by elite off-road and cross-country MTB racing, is aimed to offer a balanced and responsive ride. This means that the Impulso comes with a shorter stem than the Specialissima RC, a longer reach allows greater stability and the 70mm bottom bracket drop is designed for "maximum control and versatility when facing any challenge."
Finished off with the integrated fork and lightweight, wide-rim aerodynamic Reparto Corse wheelset make the Impulso one of the most aerodynamic gravel bikes in its category, according to Bianchi.
In addition to aerodynamics, efficiency has been another focal point in Impulso's design. The bike features a new integrated Reparto Corse cockpit, with the bars incorporating a 16-degree flare for enhanced control on technical downhill sections. The carbon-fibre composition construction means the handlebars weigh in at just 340g. Stem lengths range from 90 to 120mm, and widths span 400 to 440mm.
The frame can accommodate 42mm gravel tyres, both 1x and 2x drivetrains, but Bianchi has opted for a minimalist approach by omitting extra mounts, offering only the standard two bottle mounts and no cargo mounts anywhere on the frame.
