The Funndamental is an entry-level flat pedal that's great value, a good size and shape, and easy to maintain. If you're dipping a toe (well, foot) into flat pedals, these are a strong place to start.

CNC machined from 6061 aluminium, the Funndamental has a decent platform at 105mm x 110mm, and 11 pins per side. They're threaded to allow strategic removal to tune grip, and come off with either a 3mm allen key or a 4mm socket (both provided), depending on their position on the platform. You also get a set of shims to jack them all up by 1mm should you desire.
The axle is tough cro-mo steel and requires an 8mm allen key to install as there are no spanner flats. Both sides have spun happily on their mixture of cartridge bearings and DU bushes – which have no moving parts, but do have special low-friction bearing surfaces – over the test period.
While you can largely forget about the cartridge bearings with their sealed-in grease, it's important to keep those DU bushes lubricated yourself. Funn provides a port to allow this without taking the pedal apart, which is good, though you will need a syringe. That's not included – plus you wouldn't need one at all if it used bearings throughout.
Whilst not the largest platform out there, the concave shape and mid-length pins offer reliable, consistent grip. The concavity could be deeper for better grip still, especially as entry-level pedals are likely to be bought by new riders who'd surely appreciate it.
The overall height is a fairly standard 17mm - not the slimmest, but no more prone to rock strikes (or pushing you up too high) than the majority.
When they do hit something they resist hooking up fairly well, thanks to the angled sides, and they're tough – these have taken clouts and gouges and brushed them off easily.
The Funndamentals are well-named in that they give you just what you need, but no more. They're simple, tough and (potentially) easy to maintain, while the price is good for what they offer. Plus, if black is too subtle for you, they're available in a range of wild anodised colours to really make your bike look... fun.
