Castelli Unlimited Entrata Jersey - Fit and features
While Castelli's Performance and Aero range provide closer-fitting options, Entrata is positioned more as a comfortable fit. While it is not specific to gravel riding, the Unlimited range of clothing is for both on- and off-road riding.
Some features are very traditional including the three rear pockets and full front zip. The fabric is lightweight and helps to create a jersey that weighs just 132g in our size S, with a suggested temperature range of 18-38 degrees, which is certainly at the higher end of the scale.
Using Castelli's size guide, I found the sizing to be accurate with a very relaxed fit, both around the body and the sleeves. Unlike jerseys with performance and aerodynamic promises, the front and rear sit at near-equal heights. The rear features a short gripper section to help it stay in place and the pockets have a Jacquard elastic section to strengthen the pockets. The jersey is available in three colours, including the Gunmetal Grey (pictured here) and sizes XS to 3XL, which covers chest sizes 88-115cm (34-45in).
Castelli Unlimited Entrata Jersey - Performance
With a loose fit, I found there was plenty of air movement to stay cool when riding, even in the warmest of weather. During more intense efforts, riding in hot weather or wearing a backpack, the material managed to wick away sweat pretty well and I didn’t find it too warm or heavy at any point.
One area where a jersey with a looser fit can sometimes struggle is when it comes to rear pocket performance but the Entrata surprised me. The pockets are deep and the fabric at the bottom is folded over. Combined with a little stretch you can easily pack a lightweight windproof jersey, a larger phone, or plenty of food. While riding, there was some bounce of the pocket contents that was noticeable on rougher terrain – and I wouldn’t suggest carrying anything too heavy – but I carried a phone within a case and several energy bars, and everything stayed put. Riding in a typical position on drop bars the rear panel feels a little tighter and, combined with the gripper on the bottom and elastic hem, it creates a jersey with a good fit – and no lift at the back while riding.
An element that is missing is any form of zipped or sealed pocket. It would add a little extra security for more valuable items, or smaller things that would be more likely to fall out, such as keys or a bank card.
The YKK full zip is broad, with a simple puller comprised of two short stretches of cord it gives a light option that doesn’t bounce or knock but it is still easy to find and use.
For some, the fit will be too relaxed and, when riding on a drop bar bike the front can fold up and bow out, but for riders who are looking for a looser, relaxed fit it won’t be too much of a compromise.
Castelli Unlimited Entrata Jersey – Verdict
The Unlimited Entrata jersey costs £100, which is expensive for a relatively basic jersey design. It is made from good materials but there are many other options for less money. Other options, including the GORE Daily, and Vanelli Proline are both less than £80 and utilise similar features. On the other end, brands such as the Kostüme is a small, boutique brand with unique designs and performances that Suvi really rated.
The Entrata succeeds in hitting a mid-ground that gives a relaxed fit, for those who still want pockets instead of on-the-bike or backpack storage. The biggest issue is the price, with simple construction and lacking any useful extras such as a zipped pocket put it into the premium range of jersey options.
