Stan's No Tubes launch carbon Crest and Arch wheelsets
Stan's No Tubes announce the release of new carbon trail and cross country rims in the form of the Arch CB7 and the Crest CB7. Following on from the production of the carbon Bravo, Podium SRD and the Valour wheelsets the two new models offer something for the trail rider and cross country rider.
Both new wheelsets use Stan’s RiACT layup and rim shape, their Bead Socket Technology, and low profile sidewall to create a comfortable, fast rolling and sharp handling wheelset. The RiACT lay-up and rim shape uses high impact resistant nano-elastomer resin for greater overall rim strength and can, Stan's say, deflect up to 10mm radially to soak up impacts whilst still being laterally stiffer than aluminium rims. Stan's says the design means the wheels roll easier, with less resistance and also eliminate pinch flats.
Bead Socket Technology (BST) is a patented shape of their rims, (interior sidewall design is intentionally short, which lets the tyre's sidewall move more naturally) which allows tires to make airtight seals more quickly and easily, maintaining that seal more securely, even at lower pressures. The low-profile design of BST rims also means less weight, stronger sidewalls and a more effective tire shape.
Crest CB7
The new Crest carbon wheels will be available just in a 29er guise and will weigh a claimed 1452g for the wheelset. Crests will have a 23mm internal width which Stan's say they think is the optimum width for today's cross- country tyres whilst not adding extra weight.
The 28 hole wheelset uses Stan’s Neo with Durasync hubs and if you are interested the rims alone weigh just 325g per rim.
Arch CB7
The Arch's will be available as both 27.5 and 29er wheelsets weighing 1720g and 1794g respectively (450g / 475g per rim). Width wise the Arch rims have a 26mm internal diameter and Stan's say are ready for trail and all-mountain riding as well as being tough enough for some enduro racing. They will use the same hubs as the Crest's - Stan’s Neo with Durasync 28-hole front, 28-hole rear.
Price and buying
You will be able to buy either the 28 hole wheelset or the rims alone with a choice of 28 holes or 32. Additional build options include centerlock or 6-bolt disc mounts, Shimano, SRAM XD, or OneUp freehubs. Each stock wheelset is laced with Sapim Force j-bend spokes and are built using Sapim’s Secure Lock mechanically locking alloy nipples.
Crest CB7 and Arch CB7 rims and wheelsets are automatically covered under Stan’s two-year carbon warranty program. Owners who register their wheelsets get five years of warranty coverage. All registered rims and wheelsets are also covered by Stan’s lifetime crash replacement.
A Crest CB7 wheelset will cost you $1,399 USD or $600 USD for the rim. An Arch wheelset will set you back$1,399USD or $600 USD per rim. UK pricing to be confirmed.
