Buyer's Guide to Hydration Packs
Vaude Bracket
We were attracted to the Vaude stand for its 'foresty' feel, in fact with all the fake vegetation we could actually pretend we were deep in a loamy woodland instead of hastily avoiding being run over by trades people breaking speed limits on electric scooters. The leafy nature of Vaude's stand was a tribute their pledge to producing kit with the highest environmentally friendly standards. We checked out their new pack the 'Bracket', a pack designed for all day enduro adventures (yep, an enduro adventure is a thing). It has an ergonomically shaped back panel to stabilise the pack, a wide hip strap, helmet holder and more pockets than you can shake a stick at.
Thule Vital Collection
Suprise of the show - Thule will be doing hydration packs in 2018. The pack comes in three sizes: the Vital 3, the Vital 6, and the Vital 8 with the numbers referring to their carrying capacity. They all look like they aim to keep the weight low and the back and shoulders well ventilated using mesh type straps. Thule have created a clever magnetic strip called the ReTrakt System that runs down the shoulder strap in order to automatically relocate the hose once you have finished drinking, preventing you having to fumble around to find means of securing the valve. The packs all have substantial hip pockets and well thought out storage too which is great to see on packs of a smaller nature.
These bags will be available in February 2018 but there's no word on a price just yet.
Amplify Delta Track 8
We're not sold on the styling but the Amplify Delta Track 8 caught our eye and will be easily recognised that for sure. With its three way zip, it's super easy to get at the contents inside and the tapered bottom keeps things smooth and sleek for a fairly decent sized pack of 8 litres. The Delta Track has an industry standard back protector and an airflow system on the rear that combines four channels to let air circulate. It's a versatile hydration pack meant for both a quick lap of your local trails as well as a big day racing. The pack will be available in this camo green or a nice denim/royal blue colourway.
Camelbak Kudu, Chase and Lo
Three items at the hydration pack giant Camelbak were hot on our 'must see' list; the new Chase vest, new Repack LR and the additions to the range of Toro back protector packs.
Camelbak has expanded the range of packs that contain back protectors with two smaller capacity packs, the Toro 8 and 12 litre. The multi layered back protector plate isn't removable and is slightly narrower than the broader item found in the Kudu packs.
Camelbak's new minimalist Chase pack takes inspiration from trail runners, but there are loads of clever tweaks that make it looks ideal for gravel riding and racing. The back section sits high up, allowing access to the traditional jersey pockets you find on XC style jerseys. It manages to pack in a 1.5L water bladder, plus some other essentials i.e. a jacket into the back section.
If fanny packs are your thing then check out the Repack LR, it's got a really wide waist strap to keep things secure and stop the waist belt digging in on the climbs. Prices are to be confirmed for all of the above but check out Zyro Fisher's site for the current range.
EVOC Explorer Pro
This is one for all the adventure enthusiasts out there! If you like nothing better than packing all your kit into a bag and heading off into the sunset for a night under canvas or a bothy roof then the new Evoc Explorer Pro will be your new best friend. With room for all the kit you see in the image at the top of the page, this 30L pack has a huge swallowing capacity whether you choose the 36L version or the 30L one. The pack features all the things you'd expect to find on an Evoc pack, well thought out tool storage, their Airflow Contact System for a non-sweaty back and the Brace-Link system at the shoulders to get the fit just right. It also comes with a wash bag, now I don't know about you but there's been no washing on my overnighters! The bag will retail at about £180 and will be available in three different colour options.

Great write up. I've not seen a lot of those brands before but they all look really good especially the Thule ones. Big change from carrying my bike on my car to carrying kit on my back, but they look good. Can we please see a test of the bladders as water flow rate and cleaning is just as important as how backpack looks and fits.
