Mountain biking mission to North Korea launched
North Korea has been in the news quite a lot recently, what with threats of nuclear annihilation being bandied about before Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump decided to make nice. However, intrepid photographer Dan Milner has just launched a crowdfunding campaign to head to the secretive nation with some bike-based diplomacy of his own.
- How to prepare for your first gravel race - kit, bike setup and training
- Review: Boardman MTR 8.9 - superb value full sus trail bike
- Snowdon access for cyclists at risk, say Cycling UK
Dan is usually found exploring the less well-travelled corners of the globe, shooting stories from Afghanistan to Lebanon, but he reckons North Korea is the next most obvious place to go, saying: “The bike is the perfect tool for breaking down barriers and opening up conversations".
He'll be joined by EVOC riders Harald Philipp and Max Schumann to throw shapes on the other side of the lens. With the dust barely having settled after the historic meeting between, he's turning to crowdfunding to help cover the costs of the trip.
“This trip is a chance to really get a glimpse inside this intriguing country… and share the images and story with you all,” says Milner.
We wish Dan every success with his latest mission - it's not going to be easy by any means. It's already been taken off one US-based crowdfunding site due to the tight economic sanctions placed upon North Korea. It's not for nothing that it's often known as the 'Hermit Kingdom' due to its almost complete international isolation and severely restricted access for foreigners
