The women’s Troy Lee Designs Skyline short sleeved jersey is a light and breathable jersey that is perfect for all types of summer trail riding. It’s stretchy and dries out quickly too, there’s lots to like.
The Skyline gear has always been Troy Lee’s trail gear and this year see’s it get a radical redesign with some great new fabrics coming into play. This jersey is constructed from a 92% Polyester and 8% Spandex® fabric which like the Ruckus range of ladies mountain bike gear is also ‘Bluesign’ approved. This means Troy Lee are making sure the entire textile supply chain reduces its impact on people and the environment. The system makes sure the fabric doesn’t include any harmful substances whilst also ensuring that the manufacturers of this material stick to using safe processes for its workers.
That fabric is superbly breathable and stretchy too, this along with its lightweight nature make this one of the lightest and most comfortable jerseys I have ever worn. The thin, stretchy fabric means there is little to no rucking or creasing and if there is, you don’t feel it. It feels flimsy but it’s not, I’ve put this jersey through some tough times and it still looks as good as new and retains its shape well. Just a dash of stain remover was needed to keep it looking fresh after a muddy ride, but I’d expect that with any jersey of this colour.
The cut of the jersey is slimming and feminine, it’s long enough at the back and the round neckline sits neatly without gaping. The styling is subtle and although I liked the bright Ruckus jersey it is good to have the option of a less garish jersey, they’ve got all customers covered here. I wore a size Small and found the jersey to be true to size for my dress size 8 body.
It feels like we have been treated to some unseasonable warm weather lately, giving me ample opportunity to test the breathability of this jersey. It is certainly one of the coolest jerseys I’ve worn in temperature terms. There is a perforated material above the chest, down the sides and at the rear which all helps to keep the air flowing and the moisture being wicked away effectively. The performance on offer makes up for the slightly steeper than average price tag of £50.
If short sleeves aren’t your thing there is also a long sleeved version available for just a tenner more. In both styles there are a few other colour options from this blue, to navy to red and a bright orange.
It won’t be a jersey you are likely to team up with a baselayer underneath and it's pretty chilly on it own. It also isn't designed for use with bulky elbow pads, slimmer fit ones are fine. But it will be one you will pull out of your wardrobe time and time again in the summer. If you have a summer holiday coming with some long hot days in the saddle, I’d recommend getting one of these to keep you cool and chafe free.
