Product reviews

Made from recycled material the Race Face Khyber jersey is a flattering women's number, hitting the proverbial nail on the head where function and form are concerned.

The Race Face Khyber jersey is a simple yet effective trail jersey. The shape is a great combination of fitted and relaxed, it's flattering yet still loose enough to wear other layers underneath or to use in conjunction with slim elbow pads. I wore a size small, I'm usually a size 8-10 top and found the jersey to size up well.

The Khyber features three quarter length sleeves which, personally, are my favourite type of sleeve for UK riding, I like the protection on offer and rarely find myself overheating. The sleeves sit comfortably a couple of inches below the elbow and feature a distinctive 'winched in' cuff detail, puffing the sleeved out slightly, it won't be to everyone's tastes but I quite liked it. It gives the jersey a feminine style and means there is no flapping of material, plus you can use it to push the sleeves up past the elbow for a little more airflow.

As well as being eco-friendly, constructed from material made from old industrial waste the Khyber is also, interestingly, reversible meaning two jersey's for the price of one - cheery and spotty or sophisticated in navy - you decide. I mostly sported the plain navy side, deeming the spots to be a little out of my comfort zone where womenswear is concerned. The material of Race Face Khyber jersey is made up of 51% Repreve® (that's the recycled polyester), 38% CoolDry Polyester and 11% Spandex, which all work together to make a jersey that's really breathable, quick drying and has just the right amount of stretch when being worn.

The neckline of the jersey is constructed from a super soft, silky fabric, sitting comfortably against the skin with flat seams which don't rub when the going gets sweaty. Elsewhere the Khyber features a reflective strip at the rear, great for extra visibility if you are out on these dark winter nights. The jersey is plenty long enough too, and although it doesn't have a dropped hem at the rear, it doesn't need to - it stays in place, not riding up and covering my lower back well at all times.

I found the Khyber jersey to be a useful lightweight addition to my ride wardrobe, it's a super breathable jersey for Summer days as well as warmer Autumn ones. In the cold though, you'll want to couple it up with a base layer but that's ok because this hardwearing number is more than ready for winter rough and tumble as an outer layer.

There is a new style of Khyber jersey for 2018, but for now you can still grab this 2017 version - maybe at a discounted price with some retailers - check out Silverfish here
