Product reviews

Just like the Kuler jersey we reviewed recently the Morvelo Women’s Friday Short Sleeved MTB jersey scores high for comfort, fit and style. It’s a statement piece that we think is well worth the money.

Morvelo’s foray into mountain bike gear is looking spot on if you ask us, the women’s Friday jersey is a head turner not just for its cool graphics but also the premium craftsmanship that makes this jersey fit so well.

The jersey is 100% polyester and whilst there are no fancy acronyms describing its breathability, it is fast wicking and has a ‘BioActive’ treatment with antibacterial properties to keep stink at bay. It also boasts a sun protection factor of 50, not something I can measure, but a feature that seems to be becoming increasingly popular in jersey design and I can’t see any pitfalls of including it.

It's got a parrot.... enough said!

I wore this jersey over that sweet sunny week we had a short time ago and can vouch for that fact that it’s a cool jersey that feels light against the skin. It’s a top that is also ideal paired up with a long sleeved merino base layer when the days aren’t so warm. The fabric may be relatively light but it’s tough too, dealing with mud, brambles and multiple washes well. As my colleague Shim says in her review of the Kuler jersey, the side mesh panels do snag a little in the wash, its best to keep velcro away from it.

I’m a dress size 8-10 and wore the size small which is actually still a little on the roomy side. The fit is flattering but not super skinny which I think is ideal for a riding jersey. The v-shaped neckline sits neatly just on the collar bones and all seams are flat-lock stitched to prevent any rubbing.

The short sleeves are not too short and are raglan in design with a seamless underarm mesh panel which runs from the bottom of the sleeve, up, under the arm and right down to the hem of the jersey, keeping the air flowing on hot rides. The length of the jersey is pretty generous with the hem at the rear dropped an extra couple of inches too.

Nice and long at the rear

The hem also features a sewn-in fleecy, triangle-shaped glasses wipe which is a good addition although it is a little small. There are no pockets but I’m too fussed about that, I’m not a fan of storing anything in my jersey and I usually have a small bumbag or bigger pockets to store valuables in on short rides anyway.

At £45 the Morvelo jersey isn’t bad value, it's on par with the RaceFace ¾ length Khyber jersey for example and it’s cheaper than the short sleeved Troy Lee Skyline I am currently testing. With the quality of the materials and the great cut in mind, I think it’s a price worth paying.

The Morvelo Friday jersey is light enough for summer but versatile enough to use all year round. It’s super comfy, a great length and it’s got a cheeky, tropical parrot on it – what more could you ask for? If the parrot isn’t to your liking then check out the other designs – the Marley and the Kuler short sleeved jerseys (some of which are on sale right now…..). Morvelo haven't missed out the gents either, guys you can have a Friday jersey too and both sexes can choose from the looser fit jersey we have here or a more gravel and road orientated zip up top.
