The dhb Classic Women’s Windproof Softshell jacket is a long sleeved windproof garment that has kept me seriously warm and ready to do battle with the elements this winter.

The UK has seen some pretty cold days this winter so this thermal jersey from cycling giant Wiggle’s own clothing brand has seen a fair bit of use. dhb say this jersey will ‘provide you all the wind chill protection and warmth needed’. I put the jersey to use on cold and bright days on both my mountain bike and my gravel bike, when coupled with a base layer and/or a long sleeved jersey, I wasn’t left wanting.

The jersey is constructed from polyester and 11% Spandex, with a windproof outer membrane on the front panel and over the sleeves with soft Roubaix fleece backing fabric inside. The protective front does a great job of keeping the wind at bay whilst the back panel is super breathable. The fleece wicks any moisture away effectively and the built in stretch makes sure even this tight fitting garment doesn’t move around too much when you do. Extra stretch is added under the arms and down the side panels for greater range of movement.

There is a full length zip with an inner storm flap to prevent the cold breeze finding a way through to your under layers. This storm flap also loops up and over the zip at the top of collar covering the zipper and protecting the skin. The jersey features three deep pockets at the rear and one additional, smaller zippered security pocket for storing valuables. The cuffs are one of my favourite bits of the jersey, they are made of a smooth elasticated fabric, fitting securely over gloves to ensure there no gaps or drafts.  At the bottom hem is a silicone strip to prevent the jersey from riding up – all standard fare and good to see that these features haven’t been missed out. £70 isn’t a bad price either, it's on par with its competition from brands such as Madison.

The dhb Women’s Thermal Jersey is a winter essential for the super cold days, it won’t be something you pull out on a weekly occasion but when the temperatures sink below the 5° mark and it’s not raining, you’ll be glad you have this jersey in your arsenal. The slim fit won't suit all tastes where mountain bikers are concerned but on gravel/road forays, it's right at home. It does what a thermal jersey should do with minimum fuss, sure there’s not much flourish either but when it’s only going to cost you less than £70 that’s quite alright - at the moment the jersey is being sold by Wiggle for £55.99.
