Zip on tyres? Apparently they're a real thing...
Ever wished that you could change your tyre from a slick to an off-road tyre to an ice spike by simply zipping some new ones on? No, us neither, but that's exactly what the reTyre ONE promises as the world's first zip-on tyre, now being offered up for early adopters on Kickstarter.

The manufacturers claim that it's possible to change your rubber in under 60 seconds, simply by zipping a new 'skin' with a different tread pattern onto the base slick design. They're offering gravel, mountain bike and ice-spike skins for sale, all held on by a pair of zippers running down each side of the tyre.
It might sound fairly bonkers to us, but apparently, we're in the minority, with the project hitting its Kickstarter funding target of $10,000 in just 3.5 hours. With prices starting at $79 for a pair of tyres without skin and climbing up to $299 for a pair of tyres with all the skins on offer.
It's certainly an interesting concept, but we're not totally convinced - who would stop to switch rubber at each part of the trail even if it does take 60 seconds, never mind carrying a lot of spare skins around with them. We're also really interested to see just how durable zipping on your rubber is - never mind how it'll affect the handling. Having your tyres fall off on the trail wouldn't be a particularly good vibe...

Road.cc and MBR reported on these back in May!
Still a terrible idea, the ride is going to be poor with that much tread thickness and there's bound to be play / squirm in the outer tyre
