Looking for a trail bike that can also be used for bike packing

McNulty

All, some help needed. I'm an experienced road cyclist who is looking to dip his toe into trail cycling (in Scotland). I'm looking for a hardtail bke, with 27.5 x 2.5 tyres or fatter, that is not too heavy that is also capable of taking a back-rack for occaisonal bike packing. Budget about £1500. Looking at the best recommended hardtails (Whyte 905, Radley Mmmbop etc) none seem to be able to take a backrack. Any ideas? Many thanks.

Hi,

We've just got a Bombtrack Beyond+1 on test which could be just the ticket -http://bombtrack.com/mountain/beyondplus1/. We will let you know how that test goes.

There's also the likes of the Genesis Longitude - https://www.genesisbikes.co.uk/bikes/mountain/mountain-and-trail/longitude/longitude

and the Surly Bridge Club - https://surlybikes.com/bikes/bridge_club/frame_highlights

The above are all 27.5" bikes with rack capability.

There is also the Trek Stache, that's 29+ and can't you can't fit a rack to it but it does look like a super comfy ride! https://www.trekbikes.com/gb/en_GB/bikes/mountain-bikes/trail-mountain-bikes/stache/c/B335/

Instead of a rack, you could look at a larger seat pack to use on any of the above bikes.

You could also have a look a the Trek Roscoe - https://www.trekbikes.com/gb/en_GB/bikes/mountain-bikes/trail-mountain-bikes/roscoe/roscoe-8/p/21583/. You can fit a rack on that one and we liked it - http://off.road.cc/content/review/bikes/trek-roscoe-9-review-1221-review

Hope that helps! Happy bike packing!
